Avoid Tire Travesties with These Tips

July 22nd, 2017 by

If it’s been awhile since you took a look at your tires, now is an excellent time to check on them.

Tires that are too flat or worn down pose a safety risk. It’s much more difficult for them to get traction (which can be a real problem in poor weather) and they could actually blow out if pushed too hard.

Avoid tire catastrophes with these easy tips:

  • Check tire tread depth by slipping a penny head-first into the tread. If Lincoln’s head is still covered, your tires have adequate tread.
  • Look to see if there are signs of unusual wear. If your tires seem to be wearing down too quickly or unevenly, it could be the result of another problem that should be addressed as soon as possible.
  • Keep up with basic maintenance. Check tire pressure monthly, get wheel alignments yearly, and get a tire rotation whenever you get an oil change. Ignoring these items can cause excessive wear.
